Aeration
Lawn aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn to reduce soil compaction and improve soil aeration. It helps all lawns, especially those growing on compacted soils. Aeration allows better water uptake, enhancing fertilizer use and speeding up thatch breakdown.
Immediately after aeration, your lawn will be dotted with small plugs pulled from the soil. Within a week or two, these plugs of thatch and soil break apart and disappear into the lawn. About 7 to 10 days after aeration, aerification holes will be filled with white, actively growing roots. These are a sign that the turf grass is responding to additional oxygen, moisture, and nutrients in the soil. After aeration, your lawn will be able to use less water without showing signs of wilt. With repeat aerations, your lawn will show enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance, saving you water and money.
Overseeding
Overseeding improves lawn quality without the need to kill existing turf. It is beneficial for areas in your lawn that are thin or suffer with damaged or bare spots. In conjunction with proper management practices, such as adequate fertilization, mowing at the proper height, and testing your soil to see whether applying lime is necessary, a marginal lawn can be improved significantly. Overseeding, dethatching, and aeration are done when lawns are actively growing. A stronger, deeper root system in lawns chokes out weeds naturally, and also needs much less frequent watering.
Reasons for Overseeding:
1. To repair marginal damage sustained in summer.
2. To improve the overall quality of lawn.
3. To minimize weeds by thickening up turf.
4. To convert a lawn to an improved grass variety.
5. To follow use of a core aerator (which reduces soil compaction) or a vertical mower (which removes thatch.)
Fertilization
It is important for your lawn to have the proper nourishment to help them grow stronger, from the roots upward. Fertilization provides young plants with the nutrients necessary to establish a strong foundation, while established plants also benefit by continuing to build on that foundation. Our 6-Step Fertilization System is designed to work into the root to provide your lawn with the balanced nutrients it needs to prosper.
Step 1: Humic Acid: Increases microbial activity, increases root stimulation, and balance pH of soil.
Step 2: Fertilization and Pre-Emergent: Fertilization (organic if possible) with grassy weed prevention.
Step 3: Fertilization and Iron: Slow release fertilization (organic if possible) with iron for color.
Step 4: Fertilization, plus Disease Control (as needed): High potassium fertilization and attention to disease activity.
Step 5: Fertilization and Pre-Emergent: Fall time fertilization with winter annual prevention.
Step 6: Sulfur Application and Pre-Emergent: Acidifies the soil, balances pH and prevents winter weeds.
